The Mr Price Downhill is a new edition to the festival. The Sprint Shootout created much excitement over the years and it was a tough decision to make but the allure of seeing the skilled downhill riders throw themselves off steep hillsides got us even more excited. Add to that the fact it has been sanctioned by UCI with international points up for grabs. We hope to see the who’s who of South African Downhill racing it out.
The course starts on top of Kyber at Demagtenberg on a wooden down ramp into a series of bermed switch backs with a few small jumps followed by the first technical rock garden. There are two big road gaps of + – 10m with a few more rock gardens. The course then leads down into fast wide open track scattered with stumps and roots with a few jumps that flow down to the pond. The course then drops back down a steep slope where the main rock garden is about 100m in length. You then duck back into the pine forest for a few switch backs and small drops which leads into another tech rock garden, then down the high speed gully with a series of small drops. You then pop out the forest with a big jump into a hip jump, cut back into the pine forest and again onto a big grass break down the grass land with few big jumps to the finish.
Sounds riveting? We hope you enjoy!
